CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

“Ladies and gentlemen, Master Christopher and I welcome you to tonight’s gathering, which we sincerely hope you will enjoy and profit from.”

You’re on a dais, reading from a script to introduce the game. Everyone is seated in the first three rows.

“’Tis a simple exercise with a clear objective—to discover who among you shall be crowned King or Queen of the Occasion!” You hold up the crown from the game box. There are a few gasps; the replica, sparkling with what look like diamonds and studded with emeralds and rubies, is splendid and convincing.

“I beg you now to come forward and seat yourselves. Sit with whomever you like, but please make sure there are exactly eight members at your table.”

It takes a few minutes for them to decide where to sit. There is the buzz of expectancy. The group probably assumed you were going to give some sort of formal address; they don’t know what this is going to be, but you’ve certainly piqued their interest. You have their undivided attention as you call on Google to display the game’s guiding principles.
